Sen. Baldwin holds roundtable with UWL students
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Senator Tammy Baldwin isn’t up for re-election this year, but she is still urging others to get out and vote.
Baldwin held a roundtable with college students Wednesday evening at UWL.
In addition to encouraging young people to vote early and volunteer for campaigns, she also took time to listen to the students to find out which issues were important to them.
Baldwin says many of the concerns she heard were about the cost of college and student debt.
“I think it was a really good exchange because this is the path through voting and participation to try to address that crisis,” said Sen. Baldwin.
“It’s important for her to come to the university because our age group is the next generation and we need our voices heard. We’re the ones going into the workforce, and we’re the ones that are going to be affected by everything that’s going on in politics right now,” said UWL student Emily Smith.
Baldwin says she came away impressed with how active young people are getting in the political process this year.
