Sen. Shilling receives statewide award
Award presented at Eleanor Roosevelt Tribute ceremony
MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) — Senator Jennifer Shilling was presented the Marlys Matuszak Statewide Impact Award for her support or working families, local citizens and women across Wisconsin.
Sen. Shilling received the award at the 16th annual Eleanor Roosevelt Tribute ceremony in Madison on October 15.
Shilling’s Office said she has been an outspoken advocate for education funding, strengthening BadgerCare and restoring Wisconsin’s Equal Pay Enforcement Act.
“Quality schools, affordable health care and workplace fairness are issues that affect all families – and women in particular,” Shilling said in a statement. “As we look to turn things around, grow our economy and move our state forward, women are becoming more engaged and helping to propel these issues to the forefront of the political debate.”
The Eleanor Roosevelt Tribute event honors the legacy of the former First Lady and recognizes the efforts of women in Wisconsin who “reflect the values, ideals and pioneering attitude of Eleanor Roosevelt,” Shilling’s Office stated.
La Crosse resident and County Board Supervisor Vicki Burke was also recognized at the event. Burke was recognized as a Grassroots Activist Award nominee for her local service and community leadership. She currently serves as the Democratic Party Chair of La Crosse County.
