Senator Tammy Baldwin introduces opioid legislation

WISCONSIN (WKBT) — Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin has introduced two new bills to help local and tribal communities tackle the opioid crisis.

The first is called The Naloxone Education and Access Act.

It will increase access to overdose reversal drugs like naloxone, which are often crucial in saving lives.

The second is The State Opioid Response Grant Authorization Act.

Baldwin says it will help communities sustain their own abuse prevention efforts.

“With state opioid response grants, local communities can build upon their existing programs that help people get treatment from drug addiction,” said Baldwin.

Nationwide drug overdose deaths increased by over 28% last year.

This number could potentially climb without preventative measures.
