Series of accidents on I-35 near Ames
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A 10-mile stretch of Interstate 35 has reopened after a series of accidents that included a charter bus, cars and semitrailers.
The crashes happened just before 11 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of the interstate, closing the highway from U.S. Highway 30 south to Huxley. It was reopened by late afternoon.
Iowa Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Jessica Lown says at least one person was seriously injured. Several media outlets are reporting a fatality in connection with the crashes but Lown says she can’t confirm someone has died.
The first accident involved the bus that went into the median. Lown had no additional information about the bus.
The other two accidents involved cars, while a third crash involved three semitrailers and van.
