Several people honored with “People Helping People” awards
3965928LA CROSSE, Wis. — One of the great things about our community is the generosity of the people living here. That generosity was celebrated Tuesday night with CouleeCap’s annual “People Helping People” awards.
The event recognizes local people who work on behalf of others in our community. Individuals being honored Tuesday night were Heather Gartner for her work to decrease at-risk behaviors in the Sparta school district; Jane White, who works with low-income families in Vernon county on housing issues; and Sue Brown for her work to get Wisconsin homes weatherized.
CouleeCap’s Executive Director says there are a lot of people doing good work that deserve some recognition. “So we decided about five years ago to do an annual event where we could recognize people, other than at CouleeCap, who are doing wonderful work in the community on behalf of children, families and people in communities,” says Grace Jones.
This year’s award recipient from the business community is 3M in Crawford county. ‘Habitat for Humanity’ was also recognized for its work with CouleeCap.
