Severe Weather Possible Today & Tonight -Derek Sibley
Another active day and night is in the forecast for our area! Meteorologist Derek Sibley explains below what we could be facing.
Current Weather Conditions
Current conditions show a stationary frontal boundary positioned near our area in association with an area of low pressure over North Dakota. This system will play a factor in providing the severe threat across our area.
Latest Forecast Models
The low pressure system will move southeast toward our area by this evening. Most of the models agree that most of the heavy thunderstorms will be mainly to our east this afternoon and tonight over central/northern Wisconsin.
Good Chance of Severe Weather
A level 4 moderate risk has been issued for parts of area, while the rest of us are under a level 3 enhanced risk has been issued for the rest of our local area. A moderate risk means that widespread severe thunderstorms are likely. An enhanced risk means that numerous severe storms are possible. Timing of the thunderstorms will be mainly this afternoon-tonight. The main threats with these storms will be large hail, damaging winds, and possible isolated tornadoes.
Heat Alerts
Thunderstorms are not the only concern today. We are also watching the temperatures closely throughout the day. Heat index values between 100-105 are expected in the orange shaded areas (heat advisories here through 9pm tonight).
Looking Ahead…
Conditions improve across our area tomorrow with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the 80s. Our next best chance of thunderstorms will be on Saturday, but other than that expect mainly fair weather with cooler temperatures.
Stay Safe and have a great day!
