Shakopee teen dies after going under in lake

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) — A Shakopee teen who was pulled from a local lake after reportedly being underwater for 30 minutes has died.

The Scott County sheriff’s office says 17-year-old Jason Daquon Lewis was pronounced dead Saturday about 2:30 a.m.

Lewis had been fishing with others Friday afternoon at O’Dowd Lake. Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Swedin says the group decided to raft to a popular island that has a tree swing.

Swedin says Lewis got off the raft and began to swim to shore. A Minneapolis Star Tribune report says when he was 20 to 30 yards away he went underwater and didn’t resurface.

Emergency rescuers found him and took him to a hospital in critical condition.
