UPDATE: Missing Eau Claire County man found dead
EAU CLAIRE (WKBT) — A man missing from Eau Claire County was found dead Monday hours after authorities asked for help finding him.
The body of Gregory Steinacker, 64, was found in a tree stand within the Eau Claire County Forest, according to the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities don’t suspect foul play; however, an investigation into the manner of death is ongoing.
“The Sheriff’s Office would also like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of this gentleman,” it said in a release.
According to the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, Steinacker was reported missing Monday on the S4500 block of Hwy. NL in the town of Ludington. Neighbors told deputies that they last saw Steinacker during the last week of September.
Deputies found Steinacker’s vehicle at the residence and his wallet with his ID card still inside. Deputies learned that Steinacker was an avid hunter and searched the forest for him, along with members of local fire departments. The department thanked the Fall Creek Fire Department and August Bridge Creek Fire Department for their help.
