Sheriff says shooting of suspect appears justified
MIDDLETON, Wis. (AP) — The Dane County sheriff says an initial review of a police shooting in Middleton shows officers were justified when they shot and wounded a suspect.
Police were sent to an apartment about 2 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a disturbance. Officers say when they arrived, a man holding a shotgun opened the door and raised the weapon at officers.
At a news conference later Tuesday, Sheriff Dave Mahoney said the man was being treated at a Madison hospital and that his condition was “unknown.” Authorities declined to identify him.
The State Journal reports two officers have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
