Slovakian woman arrested for playing same opera song for 16 years

A Slovakian woman’s stubbornness and apparent love of opera has landed her in jail.

The woman, identified as “Eva N.” by the Hungarian news site Parameter.sk, was charged with harassment and malicious persecution after allegedly playing the same opera song on repeat for 16 years.

She apparently started playing Placido Domingo’s rendition of Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” in 2002 to drown out the noise of a neighbor’s barking dog, but never stopped playing the song.

She continued to play the song on full blast in her house in the southern Slovakian town of Sturovo from morning until night every day.

Eva faces six months to up to three years in jail if she’s convicted of the charges, according to the BBC.
