Some Oktoberfest celebrations continue in La Crosse

Annual event brings thousands to La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Oktoberfest celebrations would have started Thursday in La Crosse.

The four-day festival usually kicks off with the Torchlight Parade.

The parade after dark brings bands and floats, all with colorful lights, to the city’s northside.

And the Lederhosen Luncheon brings people to the festgrounds in La Crosse’s downtown.

The 60th year of the festival would have brought 10s of thousand of people to the area.

Fest organizers say while the grounds are empty this year, they are looking forward to the event’s return next year.

“We’re going to start shifting our focus to Fest 2021. Which we’ll celebrate as our 60th year. And that takes a whole year of planning. So that will be the primary focus,” said La Crosse festivals co-president James Brennan.

There are still some ways you can enjoy the Oktoberfest celebrations.

Winners in this year’s annual Oktoberfest Photography Contest were announced Thursday afternoon.

And the Motorrad will give motorcycle riders the chance to hit the roads October 10th.

The event raises money for scholarships for students at nine area high schools.
