Somerville, Barringer-Simpson earn Relays honors
DES MOINES, Iowa — University of Cincinnati hurdler Terence Somerville and U.S. runner Jenny Barringer-Simpson have been named the outstanding men’s and women’s performers for this year’s Drake Relays.
Somerville set a meet record Saturday by winning the 110-meter hurdles in 13.48 seconds.
Barringer-Simpson, a native Iowan, won the women’s 1,500 in 4:09.56.
Cedar Falls High’s James Harrington was honored as the outstanding boys’ performer.
Sioux City East’s Shelby Houlihan won the girls award.
Houlihan became the first girls’ high school athlete to win three individual events in the same year at the Drake Relays.
The meet’s final session on Saturday was sold out for the 46th year in a row.
