Sparta boy collects winter clothing for those in need
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — As the temperatures start to drop, it’s easy to forget not everyone has a warm place to call home.
To help keep those people stay warm, an area boy is stepping up in a big way with what’s called “Project: Winter is Coming.”
9 year-old Carter Mandel of Sparta is collecting winter attire for the area’s homeless population.
The idea came one night when he was leaving choir practice and saw the problem first-hand.
“After practice, there would be all these people huddling all around the warming center, that’s the church now, but I always just felt bad for them,” said Carter Mandel.
So far Carter has collected more than 600 items.
