Sparta DECA program earns spot at national conference

A local school’s DECA program will be recognized in California later this year.

Students at Sparta High School put together an extensive operation manual for their school store. That included promotions, customer service and just about anything done in the business.

For all of their work, they received the highest honor, gold level certification. And that earns the chapter a spot at the national conference in Anaheim, California.

“It means that we reached our goal and that we were successful and better than all the other people that didn’t get gold, that we’re one of the top teams,” said Sparta High School sophomore Kristia Anderson. Sophomore Samantha Fruit said, “I’m learning great customer service and how to make change and stuff, and it teaches me how to run a business.”

There are 75 DECA students at Sparta High School.
