Sparta girl donates 14-inches for Locks of Love
Madysen Henry inspired younger sister to do the same
SPARTA, WI (WKBT) — Madysen Henry, 6, of Sparta, has been looking forward to this haircut for weeks, but preparation for Saturday’s cut was years in the making.
While the haircut may only last a matter of minutes, she’s spreading love to little girls and boys who need it most.
In life, parents always remember their child’s firsts — first steps and first words.
“I was at work for the first steps and first word was ‘mommy,'” said Kimberly Henry, Madysen’s mom.
This day marks another milestone for Madysen, her first real haircut.
“It’s an epic haircut, yes,” Kimberly said.
Madysen has only gotten her hair trimmed before.
“We said right off above the shoulder?” said the stylist.
After her haircut, Madysen will be donating 14 inches of her hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit that donates wigs to children with medical hair loss.
“We’ve talked to her a couple of times about doing it and she’s always said no, so all of a sudden she realized it was time to get rid of it and it was good to help somebody else,” said Henry.
With her family there to capture the moment, Madysen sat quietly, while the stylist cut her long hair.
She was still a little uneasy about letting go, but Madysen said as tough as it is, she wants to do it again.
“How many kids do you want to donate your hair to?” Henry asked her daughter. “Ten,” replied Madysen.
Henry said she couldn’t be more proud of her daughter.
UPDATE on Thursday, November 22:
Madysen inspired her older sister, 9-year-old Alexis, to do the same.
This week, Alexis donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love.
