Sparta man charged with homicide for 2009 fatal crash

SPARTA, Wis. — A Sparta man is charged with homicide for a 2009 suspected drunk driving crash that killed his brother.

Jason Schodeberg, 26, was arrested June 29 for allegedly driving drunk and crashing a vehicle July 26, 2009 on Highway 33 near Cashton.

His brother, 30-year-old Glenn Schodeberg of Leon, was thrown from the vehicle before being pinned beneath it. He was dead at the scene.

Jason Schodeberg left the crash scene, but was found later and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

At the time of the accident, investigators could not determine who was driving the vehicle.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department says DNA evidence and witnesses helped investigators determine Jason Schodeberg was the driver.

Schodeberg appeared in court Monday on six charges, including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle

Schodeberg was released on a $5,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again July 9.
