Sparta man charged with homicide, repeated domestic abuse going to trial
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) – Shawn Hock will go to trial for the alleged killing of 32-year-old Sara Latimer.
Along with first-degree intentional homicide, he’s charged with multiple counts of repeated domestic abuse.
An investigator for the Sparta Police Department, Detective Jose Tovar, took the stand on Wednesday during the preliminary hearing.
Det. Tovar answered questions about events leading up to Latimer’s death.
The detective said Latimer’s mother, Nicole, contacted the police department the day before her death with text messages and pictures from her daughter, showing injuries.
“She called to have a welfare check done on Sara because she had received text messages and picture messages from Sara,” said Det. Tovar. “Her picture was a picture of her face where she had swollen lips, and she looked like she was laying on Shawn’s arm.”
Hock’s arraignment will happen on November 9th, when he’s expected to enter a plea.
Following the preliminary hearing, Hock was sentenced for previous domestic violence charges. Hock was sentenced to 15 months in prison, and 2 years of extended supervision.
