Sparta man injured in rollover after police chase
4807730SPARTA, Wis. — A Sparta man is injured after rolling his vehicle following a short chase with a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputy early Tuesday morning.
Deputies initially received a report of a suspicious vehicle a few minutes before 12:30 a.m. on the side of County Road B near Deerlick Avenue.
When a deputy tried to talk to the 19-year-old driver, he sped away from the scene.
The driver, whose name has not been released, led the deputy on a one mile chase before losing control on a curve and rolling his vehicle into a corn field.
The man was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse with life threatening injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol, which is handling investigation of the crash, says the man was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
