Sparta residents help clean-up downtown area
The event was part of Earth Day
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — Some Sparta residents are doing a little extra to take pride in their town.
The Chamber of Commerce organized a clean-up day Tuesday, in honor of Earth Day.
Volunteers, including students from the high school’s ‘Earth Club,’ started bright and early Tuesday morning at the Water Street Bridge to get the town spruced up after the long, cold winter.
For the Chamber, it’s a way to get ready for the tourism season, but they also hope it becomes a place residents can show off.
“We hope that people will take that extra step down the road when they realize all the extra man hours put in to picking up other people’s trash, they realize that you take that extra six steps and put it in the proper disposal container,” said the Exec. Dir. of the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce Tim Hyma.
The students from the Earth Club are recycling the trash picked up.
