Sparta to benefit from Wisconsin downtown revitalization program

Sparta is one of 6 communities benefitting this year from a Wisconsin downtown revitalization program.

The state’s Economic Development Corporation accepted Sparta into the Connect Communities Program. By becoming a Connect Community, Sparta will get expert opinions on revitalization efforts and how to better connect with the state and other nearby cities and towns.

City leaders say the help will expand on a growing downtown area.

“We are seeing some new businesses and some new opportunities like the Mueller Square with our Farmers’ Market, we have the nice covered bridges downtown, so we’re very pleased with what we have to work with and we’re very optimistic about the future,” said Sparta Area of Commerce Director John Hendricks.

Sparta city leaders will meet with experts from the state Tuesday for Downtown Wisconsin Day.
