Sparta woman charged in arson incident

A Sparta woman is in jail for reportedly setting fire to a Sparta home on December 28.

According to a criminal complaint, Brittany Ambrosini, did intentionally damage the home of her parents, Mark and Roxanne Metcalf.

Mark Metcalf told officers that he was sure Ambrosini was the individual that started the fire, as she had threatened to burn it down multiple times as she thought the house was cursed.

Responders were called to the scene at 9:13 p.m. Friday by the couple who live in the home after they came back from dinner to find smoke coming from their house, according to the fire chief. The fire chief said firefighters found seven places where fire was allegedly started in the basement of the home as well as one fire that was allegedly started on the first floor. They said they also found the device allegedly used to start the fires on the first floor.

Authorities located Ambrosini on Highway E, conducted a traffic stop and took her into custody without incident. Ambrosini’s two children were also in the vehicle and were handed over to the Metcalf’s for care, according to the complaint.

Ambrosini is facing one count of arson of building, second degree recklessly endangering safety, Negligent handling of burning material, two counts of felony bail jumping.
