Sparta’s annual back-to-school block party a day of fun in the sun

Sparta Legion Family event provided school supplies to area students

Community members in Sparta had a full day of fun in the sun at the annual back-to-school block party.

It is hosted by the Sparta Legion Family which consists of the Legion, Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion.

The first 100 kids to attend received free school supplies. Plus, they got to take a closer look at the people who help in emergency situations, like the fire department and police. Other activities include bouncy houses and a dunk tank.

Although it is only the second year of the event, organizers say it is growing every year.

“Today’s event is twice as large as it was last year. We got a lot more activities going on, bringing in the petting zoo was a new addition, lots of great things,” said Sparta Block Party Event Organizer Eric McKay.

The free event is supported by other fundraising events throughout the year.
