…A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT THE MISSISSIPPI
RIVER AND WESTERN WISCONSIN…
At 525 PM CDT, radar indicated a line strong to severe thunderstorms
moving east at 50 mph across southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa.
These storms will reach the Mississippi River by 630 pm and western
Wisconsin counties by 7 pm.
Wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph, nickel size hail, and torrential
downpours can be expected with this line of storms.
Locations impacted through 7 pm include…
The Mississippi River, La Crosse, Platteville, Prairie Du Chien, La
Crescent, Viroqua, Lancaster, Onalaska, Holmen, West Salem,
Boscobel, Fennimore, Westby, Cuba City, Bangor, Hillsboro, Muscoda,
Hazel Green, Dickeyville, Cassville and Stoddard.
People attending the La Crosse County Interstate Fair should seek
shelter when these storms approach.
These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
If you are on the Mississippi River, get of the water and move
indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to
10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you
are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter
now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until
these storms pass.
