‘Spike for a Cure’ raises money for lung cancer research

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.

It’s also the second most diagnosed cancer in both men and women.

That’s according to the CDC.

To raise awareness about it a group of UW-La Crosse students is stepping up to the net.

The UWL Pre-Physician Assistant Club hosted its 10th annual lung cancer research fundraiser on Friday.

14 volleyball teams played to “Spike for a Cure”.

Teams were made up of UWL students, people who have been personally impacted by lung cancer, or just playing for fun.

There was also a raffle with prizes donated from the community.

All the proceeds from the event go toward cancer research on UWL’s campus.
