State commissioner to investigate Eau Claire County DA
MADISON (WKBT) — Gov. Tony Evers has appointed a commissioner to investigate Eau Claire County District Attorney Gary King after receiving a complaint against him earlier this month.
William Ramsey, deputy chief legal counsel at the Wisconsin Department of Administration, will investigate the charges, which were submitted to Evers June 3, and schedule a date for a public hearing on the investigation. After the hearing , Ramsey will report his findings to the governor who will then make a determination as to whether there is just cause to remove King from office.
Under Wisconsin State Statutes, Chapter 17, the governor can remove a district attorney “for cause” if he receives “written verified charges brought by a resident taxpayer” of a county.
