State employee charged with Social Security fraud

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A state employee has been charged with using a false identity to collect low-income housing tax subsidies from the federal government.

A federal indictment says 53-year-old Oluremi George illegally claimed more than $18,000 in housing credits by using a false name and Social Security number to apply for a townhome at a low-income housing complex.

The Woodbury woman is accused of using the false Social Security number when applying for a driver’s license and passport. The Star Tribune reports George is charged with five counts of Social Security fraud, four counts of making false statements and passport fraud. She did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
