State historical society posts old cards online
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Historical Society is giving people a peek into holiday motifs of the past by posting more than 200 old cards online.
Robin Weaver works in the library at the Wisconsin Historical Society and says the 226 holiday cards date back to 1845.
She says the thousands of cards in their regular archives include other occasions like Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day that have trickled in over the years. She says they picked the most interesting holiday ones to post online starting last year.
Among the cards online are greetings from presidents Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and George W. Bush and those sent by governors Phil La Follette, Warren Knowles and Martin Schreiber.
