State’s plan focuses on improving airports
Wisconsin's State Airport System Plan 2030
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — With Governor Walker proclaiming tomorrow the start of Aviation week, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is looking at improving its airports.
The idea is part of Wisconsin’s State Airport System Plan 2030. It’s a process where the department evaluates the needs and future goals of the state’s airport systems.
The data collected from the research will help with safety improvements and redevelopment projects.
If a local airport needs improving, the county or city it’s in will have to share some of the costs with the state.
“The state pays a share of the capital development but it’s generally something in the order of 5% of an airport development project when that project is funded by federal funds,” said Keith Gerard from the WisDOT, Bureau of Aeronautics.
