Statewide tornado drills in Wis., Minn. today
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It is Severe Weather Awareness Week. Both Wisconsin and Minnesota are staging tornado drills to help people prepare for the severe weather season.
The National Weather Service will issue mock tornado watches in both states at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24th. A mock tornado warning will be issued at 1:45 p.m.
Many TV and radio stations, schools, and cities are participating in the drill. Residents will likely be hearing warning sirens.
Wisconsin’s tornado drill will take place even if the sky is cloudy, dark and/or rainy. If actual severe storms are expected on Thursday April 24, the tornado drill will be postponed until Friday, April 25 with the same times. If severe storms are possible Friday the drill will be cancelled.
