Staying safe while sledding starts before going down hill

Watch to make sure that no people are in the way as you go down the hill

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It’s the time of year for winter fun from hitting the slopes for skiing and snowboarding to sledding.

However, thousands of people are injured participating in winter activities every year.

Safety starts before you start going down the hill.

“You want a hill with a nice slope that is flat at the bottom, avoiding any fences, parking lots, frozen bodies of water,” said Megan Anderson, an injury prevention specialist at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

You also should watch to make sure that no people are in the way as you go down the hill, she said.
