Storms do little to alleviate stifling heat

WAUSAU, WI (AP) — Storms that rolled through parts of Wisconsin did little to alleviate hot and sticky temperatures.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for south central and southern Wisconsin through 8 p.m. Tuesday. High temperatures are forecast for the low to mid-90s with heat index values of 100 to 105.

As temperatures soared, some communities have already closed their swimming pools for the season, including five in the Wausau area. While most Milwaukee County pools closed for the season, the county reopened a couple water parks through Labor Day because of the stifling heat.

Daily Herald Media says Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston treated two cases of heat-related illnesses through Monday afternoon. Heat-related illnesses include heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat cramps.
