Student physicals important as beginning of school year nears

Some La Crosse area districts will start in a little more than a month.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Ready or not, the school year will be here before you know it.

Some districts will start in a little more than a month.

Before kids head back to school, parents need to get their back to school appointments scheduled for physicals and immunizations.

The visit will help doctors deal with small issues before they become big problems.

“Those health wellness visits, we try to screen for those delays. Whether it is motor delays, mental delays, intellectual delays. To see if we can get proper, early intervention,” said Dr. Joseph Poterucha with Mayo Clinic Health System.

There are immunizations required in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, but they can be waived for health, religious or personal conviction reasons.
