Students learn about geocaching at event in West Salem
WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) — Technology is helping kids in our area get outside and learn.
The Cooperative Education Service Agency, or CESA, hosted a geocaching event for 4th to 6th graders.
Geocaching participants use GPS enabled devices to find locations with containers, known as caches.
Students also use engineering and coding skills to learn how GPS systems work, along with plotting their own caches.
Approximately 30 students took part in the event.
“GPS coordinates, understanding nature, we’re also picking up garbage along the way, great exercise, we’re outside, we’re not in a classroom and we’re learning a ton,” said Arielle Hall, 5th grade teacher at Black River Falls Elementary.
Students are encouraged to design their own cache and a series of clues in order to apply and share geocaching with their classmates.
