Students learn about STEM careers during National Engineers Week in La Crosse

Nearly 250 students will take part during week

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A week long event is giving area students the chance to build career opportunities.

About 45 8th graders were at Trane’s La Crosse facility this morning for a LEGO vehicle design competition.

The students also toured the Trane laboratory and acoustics facility.

The event that encourages STEM careers and recognizes National Engineers Week.

Real world experience help student learn about the opportunities of the future.

“We know that we’re going to have some workforce challenges with recruiting a younger generation into engineering. So we want to make sure these kids get the exposure, they get a chance to meet an engineer and consider if it’s the right career path for them,” said Kristin Sullivan, Trane compressor design team leader.

Over the course of the week, nearly 250 students from 11 area schools will take part.
