Students, staff celebrate opening of La Crosse’s Northside Elementary

First new school for District in more than 20 years

Students and staff celebrated their first day of school at the new Northside Elementary School in La Crosse Tuesday morning.

It’s the School District of La Crosse’s first new school in more than 20 years.

Students, staff and members of the American Legion Post 52 raised the American flag for the first time during a Tuesday morning ceremony in the school’s courtyard.

“We wanted to make the initial raising of the American flag ceremonial,” said School District of La Crosse Superintendent of Schools Randy Nelson.  “There will be plenty of excitement and energy at the school and we want our students to spend some time reflecting on the amazing freedom and privileges we have and the service men and women who make that a reality.”

If you’d like to tour the new school, it will be open to the public on Thursday, September 18.
