Stuffing recommended physical activity into 2 days still impactful
Guidelines recommend 150 minutes each week
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Finding time to exercise can be difficult, but any amount of exercise is better than none.
New research shows even packing your physical activity into the weekend is still beneficial.
Guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, ideally spread out. The new study suggests jamming your exercise into just 1 to 2 days is still useful in lowering a person’s chances of mortality.
Local health care providers hope the new findings will motivate more people to exercise when they can.
“It does promote that something is better than nothing at all. So is you’ve had a really bad week, you haven’t been active, at least you can get out on the weekend and you can make up some ground. You can make a difference in your health if that’s the only thing you can do,” said Gundersen Health System Wellness Education Specialist Linda Larson.
Local health care providers say the study only looked at mortality though. Researchers did not consider other factors like BMI, blood pressure, or cholesterol.
