Suspect arrested in fatal motel shooting
ASHLAND, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect has been arrested in South Dakota in a fatal shooting at a motel in far northwestern Wisconsin.
Police say a man was found dead of a gunshot wound at the Anderson’s Chequamegon Motel in Ashland Wednesday night. Officers say they were called to the motel to check on the welfare of the man, who police say was in his 30s. Police Chief John Paitl says the victim and suspect are not from the area.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension helped local police investigate the shooting. The Ashland Daily Press says the victim has not been identified.
Ashland is a port on Lake Superior with a population of about 9,000.
