Suspect in Waukesha homicide dead in Indiana
WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — Police in Bloomington, Ind., say a man wanted for killing a woman in southeastern Wisconsin took his own life when confronted by officers.
Authorities say the 26-year-old suspect was confronted about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after a state police detective recognized him as wanted by federal marshals. Law enforcement agencies in Indiana were looking for Callaway because he had family in the area.
A Bloomington officer held Eddie Callaway at gunpoint until backup arrived. Police say once other officers arrived, Callaway retrieved a weapon from his waistband and shot himself in the head.
Police in Waukesha believe Callaway shot and killed 24-year-old Shanel Negron last week. A charged of first-degree intentional homicide had been filed against Callaway.
