T-Mobile reports hack of customer data

T-Mobile US and its unit Metro PCS informed customers on Thursday about a potential security breach that was discovered and shut down by the company.

T-Mobile and MetroPCS are warning their customers of a potential security breach.

T-Mobile said in a statement on its website that their cybersecurity team found and shut down unauthorized access to certain information on Aug. 20.

The company said that no financial information, social security numbers or passwords were compromised, but other personal information may have been exposed. That includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, zip codes, and account information.

A T-Mobile spokesperson told the tech news website Motherboard that about 3 percent of its customers may have been affected.
