State report says slaying suspect competent to stand trial

A report from state experts says a man charged with sexually assaulting and killing a woman in Dubuque is competent to stand trial.Helmon Betwell has been under treatment at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville since August. In June a judge declared Betwell was incompetent and ordered him to undergo treatment.

Dubuque woman found competent for trial in ex's death

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A judge has determined that a Dubuque woman is now mentally fit enough to stand trial for the beating death of her ex-husband.The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2gDcoTR ) that Iowa District Court Judge Michael Shubatt ordered Wednesday that 62-year-old Dolores Flynn stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder in the January death of 72-year-old Gary Breckenridge.
