A judge has ruled a man accused of killing two people in Mason City is now mentally competent to stand trial.

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A January trial has been scheduled for a man accused of killing two people and trying to kill another in Mason City.Court documents say 30-year-old Peter Veal, of Lake Mills, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. His trial is set to begin Jan. 24.
