The US special tepresentative for Afghanistan has met with one of the founding members of the Taliban for the first time, as the latest round of peace talks resumed in Qatar Monday.
American diplomats met face-to-face with Taliban representatives in Qatar last week to discuss laying the groundwork for peace talks, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter.
North Korea has threatened to cancel the planned summit between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un scheduled for June 12 in Singapore, saying the US should carefully consider the fate of the upcoming meeting, in view of what it calls "provocative military disturbances with South Korea," North Korea's state news agency reported early Wednesday local time.
North Korea has accepted South Korea's proposal for official talks in what will be the first high-level contact between the two countries in more than two years.
