While tens of thousands of travelers descend on Peru annually to visit well-known attractions such as Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley and Lima, one of the country's most beautiful and interesting spots is virtually ignored by tourists.
The Inca designed Machu Picchu to be hard to reach and, for hundreds of years, the mountaintop citadel has been protected by the spectacular peaks and gorges which encircle its ancient fortifications.
Machu Picchu is estimated to be about 600 years old. But it has only been fully wheelchair accessible for a few months.
It's the spectacular Incan citadel in the Andes Mountain range that's on everyone's travel bucket list, but access to Machu Picchu is becoming more strictly regulated.
