Tate wants to continue leading Democratic Party

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Mike Tate is seeking a third term as chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party.

Tate announced Tuesday that he is running for another two-year term. Delegates at the state party convention in June will vote on who will serve as party chair.

Tate was first elected as Democratic Party chairman in 2009. He’s presided over the party during a tumultuous time that saw a Republican wave in 2010 with Scott Walker elected as governor and both houses of the Legislature moving from Democratic to Republican control.

The 34-year-old Tate was also heavily involved in the recall elections targeting Republican state senators and Walker.

Tate’s re-election campaign announcement came with a host of endorsements, including former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold and current U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
