The story of Christmas comes to life at Bethlehem Event

The story of Christmas came to life in La Crosse Sunday.

English Lutheran Church re-created the experience of being in Bethlehem when Jesus was born.  The scene includes church members dressed as people would have been alive 2,000 years ago.  There were also animals like goats and sheep, and a new born less than a month old played the role of baby Jesus.

The church says its a community building event.  “We have easily 300 people get involved with somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 person hours from baking bread to building sets to making costumes,” says Paul Sannerud from English Lutheran, “it’s a real community activity.”

The church holds the event every three to four years and started building this year’s scene in October.
