Thousands run for pie on Turkey Day

7th annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot

Despite a cold Thursday morning, thousands of runners laced up their shoes and tried to work up an appetite before their Thanksgiving Day meal.

The early morning run was part of the 7th annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot.

Runners have their choice of a 5-k, a 2 mile run/walk or a 2 mile dog jog.

All proceeds from the event go to help out the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA.

With more than more than 3,000 runners taking part in the races, their support goes a long way.

“Just the giving part of it, the whole idea of being thankful on Thanksgiving and paying it forward, or how ever you want to think about that in being generous, that’s what I think is super exciting. To see how many people are dedicated and are supportive of what’s happening in out community,” event organizer Pam Pfitzer said.

In honor of thanksgiving, Festival Foods gave out free pumpkin pie at the end of the race.
