UPDATE: DOT releases names of three people killed in car vs. semi crash in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY (WKBT) – The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating a car vs. semi crash that killed three people in Jackson County early Saturday morning.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation released the names of the three people Sunday morning. Leonard Hopinka (34) of Black River Falls, Tyler Decorah (36) of Black River Falls, and Jordan Vidana (35) of Black River Falls all died in the crash.

According to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the collision happened on Wisconsin Highway 54 westbound at Andrews Road near Black River Falls at approximately 1:36 a.m.

Authorities say upon initial investigation, the semi unit was departing a parking lot attempting to cross Highway 54 into a Kwik Trip parking lot.

As the semi was crossing the highway, a car with three occupants driving westbound on the highway struck the semi’s trailer, according to the release.

Authorities say when crews arrived, it was discovered the three individuals from the car were dead.

The Black River Falls Police Department, Black River Falls Rescue, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, and Jackson County Highway Department all provided assistance.

The state patrol is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
