Time to start thinking about taxes approaching
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It’s that time of year when people start receiving their W-2 forms and other tax information.
Last year’s government shutdown will affect this year’s return processing date. The IRS won’t start processing returns until January 31st, two weeks later than normal.
Experts say it’s important to start gathering all of your documents now so they are ready when you want to file. They also encourage you to go through the filing process now if you would like to file the finished product right away on the 31st.
If you own a business or you think you’re going to owe money, it might not be a good idea to wait until April. “Sometimes it’s nice to get it all together while last year is still kind of fresh in your mind and while those documents are kind of readily available,” said Tammy Becker of Becker Tax & Bookkeeping.
The deadline to file your taxes this year is April 15th.
