Tips for healthy eating this winter
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It’s hard to make healthy eating choices this time of year.
Fresh summer produce is sparse, so it’s easy to turn to those favorite comfort foods.
But the Winter Farmer’s Market at Myrick Park held a special program to teach people how to incorporate winter produce into their diets.
The “Teaching Kitchen” shared samples of butternut squash soup and healthy recipes with shoppers, so they can get adequate nutrition as the seasons change.
“So obviously we’re into the hibernation mode, our bodies are starting to go ‘woah’ seasons have changed, and we want to eat those starchy vegetables and all of that good stuff that comes in this time of year,” said Laurie Cafe, Assistant Manager of the Winter Farmer’s Market.
Starchy vegetables include squash, cabbage, and potatoes.
A registered dietitian from Mayo Clinic System was also there to answer questions about staying healthy over the winter.
The Winter Farmers Market offers different programs every Sunday and runs until December 22nd.
