Town of Campbell firefighters respond to fire in self-storage building
TOWN OF CAMPBELL, Wis. (WKBT) – The Campbell Fire Department was called to a storage shed fire Saturday afternoon. When crews got to the scene, they saw heavy smoke coming from a building at Galaxy Self Storage.
They cut open doors and walls of the building to get to the fire and put it out.
Onalaska and La Crescent fire departments were also called to the scene.
“We had three fire departments working together and it’s because there was so much material in the storage units that we had to move that material out so that we could continue to fight the fire,” said Campbell’s Chief Nate Melby. “It’s labor-intensive, we really appreciate the partnership from our mutual aid partners.”
Melby says they don’t yet know what started the fire.
There are no reported injuries. The cause is under investigation.
Melby says it’s a reminder to follow fire safety practices and know possible hot spots, even in places like storage sheds, to prevent fires from happening.
